A neck lift is a common procedure to reduce the appearance of a sagging neck or jowls. It can remove excess skin to create a more youthful appearance, making you feel better about how you look. However, it is considered a major surgery and requires recovery that can last several weeks. This is what you can expect.
Recovery Instructions
You will receive a list of recovery instructions before your surgery, so you know what to expect. You must follow them closely to ensure you heal as swiftly as possible. Your surgeon will review them with you before and after your procedure.
Immediate Recovery
There will be a tight bandage around your neck after your surgery. This should stay in place until your follow-up appointment, when your surgeon may decide to redress the incision. You may or may not have a drain to prevent uncomfortable swelling.
Bruising and Swelling
As with any major surgery, you should expect some amount of bruising and swelling in the area. This is normal and will be at its worst by day three or four. After this, it should start to lessen. You may also feel slight tingling around the incision site. Your surgeon may prescribe medication to reduce the pain and swelling.
Rest and Elevation
Resting after any major surgery is essential, and a neck lift is no exception. You should rest as your body heals. Keeping your head elevated can help to reduce swelling in your neck, which should reduce pain and aid healing. This is especially important in the first several days after neck lift surgery.
Long-Term Recovery
Most swelling and bruising should be gone by the second week, but it could take several more to see the full results of the procedure. While you can return to everyday activities at this point, you should avoid overly strenuous ones, especially sports. It is normal to feel tingling and tightness around the incision for some time.
