If you have pictured your lips as fuller or with a different shape, then you may benefit from a lip augmentation procedure. However, there are several options, and choosing the best for you may be the hardest part. After you learn a little more about each one below, you should speak with an experienced facial plastic surgeon.
Lip Lift
A permanent lip augmentation solution is a lip lift. With the correct technique, a lip lift can help create a more sensuous look, improve your smile, eliminate wrinkles around the mouth and more. At a consultation with your surgeon, you can discuss the changes you’d like or what you are unhappy with, so they can help create a new augmented lip look for you.
Dermal Fillers
Both Restylane® Silk and Juvederm® are injectable fillers that can add volume to your lips. The results are nearly instant, with a much faster healing process than some other lip augmentation options. This option can be used to smooth wrinkles around the lips as well. Dermal fillers are a temporary solution, but can be repeated as needed.
Lip Fat Injections
Fat grafting has a similar process as fillers. However, instead of using injectable solutions, fat harvested from another area of your body is used. The results of this process are still temporary but often last several years, while some dermal fillers could only last six months to a year. Fat grafting is one of the most effective, non-surgical lip augmentation techniques.
SMAS Lip Grafting
If you are already undergoing a SMAS facelift and would like fuller lips, SMAS lip grafting could be the right option. The additional procedure is performed simultaneously, allowing you to heal from both at the same time and see the results of both a facelift and lip augmentation.
Lip Reduction
Some patients may want to reduce the size of their lips instead of making them fuller. Large lips could make you self-conscious or skew the proportions of the face. In some cases, it can affect speech. The lip reduction process usually requires surgery, but is typically a simple procedure.
